REFRACTION

We worked with Masary to create Refraction. A suspended sculpture of semi-opaque, refractive pendants flowing within the Boston Children’s Hospital Chapel to provoke a sense of connection, wonder, and contemplation. Our scope consisted of fabricating a collection of acrylic pendants, designing their associated hanging hardware and determining installation techniques. Dichromatic film is applied to one side of each pendant. The tops of the pendants are polished to allow light in from the top, while the bottoms are frosted to make that light glow throughout. The 263 individual pendants are suspended at different heights and vary in length, forming a crescent.
